ABSTRACT
(i) Introduction: The term “nervous breakdown” is of course no more scientific than other classificatory categories of psychogenic illness. It might for instance be used to designate the irruption or early stages of almost any variety of mental or nervous disorder, in the same way as the term “neurasthenia” was for many years used by practitioners of medicine to cover a multitude of sins from anxiety neurosis to schizophrenia.
