ABSTRACT

The analytical excerpt calls attention to the very intimate relationship between anxiety and sexuality. The patient under review is in a certain degree of Anxiety State although this is far from being his only or even his main symptom. He has already converted his anxiety into various characterological and other structures. Nevertheless, it was during the course of analysis that the foundation of all these various structures, symptom-formations and character-traits, rose to a conscious level and it became obvious that this foundation is or was anxiety. During treatment attention has been called to the fact that his sexual life is imbued with this anxiety though its source is largely of an unconscious nature. Then there is the question of position for intercourse which presents his ego with a number of problems. At the session to be described there was at first no mention of his sexual problem, if it could be regarded by him as a problem at all.
