ABSTRACT

Trotter developed an interest in the history of anthropology later in life. Partly due to her own later realizations of gender disparities and her status as a founding member, Trotter was particularly interested in documenting the historically often minimized roles of women. This chapter will present details on the few other active female anthropologists contemporary with Trotter. Presenting existing documentation of treatment based on gender for each of these early members of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, in some cases firsthand, provides an indirect, and admittedly incomplete, retrospective member survey.
