ABSTRACT

As with female anthropologists in the early years of physical anthropology, this chapter introduces the very few people of color active in the field contemporary with Mildred Trotter. I present the documented experiences of these individuals, some of the commonalities of their experiences, racism they experienced, as well as some of Trotter’s own, sometimes problematic, interactions with these colleagues. Most were not members of the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, but were connected to Trotter in various ways.
