ABSTRACT

The number of insured workpeople shows a general upward trend during the last ten or twelve years in West Yorkshire as a whole, an increase of 3·8 per cent in the twelve chief towns, corresponding closely with the growth of population during the same period. The experience of the different towns, however, deviates considerably from this general trend. The outstanding change is marked increase in the number of insured workpeople in Leeds, the total in 1935 being nearly 30,000 more than in 1924. It is significant that the large centres have generally maintained their position better than the smaller towns under review.
