ABSTRACT

An overview of what needs to be covered during class time, including the combined content of classwork and fieldwork, is described in this chapter. Class hours will be spent on the art projects to be learned and field-tested approaches for offering the projects in the disparate sites. Homework assignments, primarily consisting of logs, which are written after each fieldwork session, are given continuing attention as they provide an accounting of student initiatives, the assessment of projects, participant and staff involvement, and other components of the session. Classwork includes other key aspects of successful sessions, such as how to conduct the “critique” of participant work, problem-solving of incidents arising in fieldwork and the team planning of weekly projects. Periodic individual conferences with students pertaining to their fieldwork experiences are a recommended additional component of class time.
