ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, a quantitative analysis is carried out on the mismatch between the industrial structure and the age structure of the labor force. Through Todaro’s life cycle theory model, the chapter theoretically derives the factors that affect the demand for laborers of different ages in the industries and makes a regression analysis on laborer demand for different age segments in all the industries of the secondary sector by using the provincial data panel. The results of the regression analysis are used to analyze the laborers’ age structure in the labor-intensive manufacturing industry and construction industry in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and the other coastal provinces. By comparing this laborer’s age with the actual age of laborer supply, the study proves that the manufacturing industry and construction industry are the main factors leading to the structural unbalance of laborer’s age supply and demand in China.
