ABSTRACT

This chapter is about comparison and the artist. Many artists understand the phrase, “comparison is the thief of joy” but is that necessarily true? Comparison can be healthy - especially when it’s approached correctly. It is similar to failure and must be taught with positives, as opposed to negatives. Through taking stock of identification, individuality, and inspiration an artist can use comparison for good by understanding their place in the world, not their relationship to it. The Career Connection is Alternative Spaces (Concert, Cabaret, and Drag) and the Episode Excerpt is from Episode 46, “The Perception of the Multi-Hyphenate,” featuring L Morgan Lee.
