ABSTRACT

This chapter takes stock of the various activities of Chinese formal actors abroad to map out the operationalization of China’s grand strategic pursuits. The chapter reveals the actors and executioners of the strategy abroad, ranging from government officials and diplomats to state-owned companies, private sector investors. The chapter reveals how China seeks new venues, trade routes, new resources, and partnerships. The chapter also reveals how China utilizes various tools, ranging from new institution building to investments, foreign aid provision, soft power engagement, and trade agreements in various theaters around the globe.
