ABSTRACT
This chapter dives into the concept and the subject of grand strategy, to define it—to present the many definitions and understandings of it as found in various scholarships and the literature. It focuses on those scholars who found renewed interest in the concept and have revived it, and who even seek to develop an academic field of inquiry around it, in the United States. The chapter provides the author’s own definition, which synthesizes the substantive proprieties comprised in grand strategies. In this chapter, the author defines the contours and understanding of the key concept around which further discussions will revolve.
