ABSTRACT

This chapter picks up where the previous chapter has left off. After identifying the constitutive elements of a grand strategy, and after discussing the difficulties in determining its existence, the author sets out in providing the rationale for answering that question in the case of China. In the process, the author reviews the literature and peruses the different answers provided by other scholars who have studied the question. In the process, the author then contrasts the conclusion of his approach with many others provided and suggested by other scholars who have reached various other conclusions. In this contrast, and by counterarguing, the author demonstrates justification of his conclusion.
