ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the next constitutive element of grand strategy, namely, scale and scope. The complex nature of grand strategic pursuits justifies the extended reach and breadth of operations that China has increasingly taken and their variety. The chapter, therefore, takes stock of activities pursued by China and links them to specific objectives mentioned in the previous chapter. The chapter maps out China’s involvement in the following areas; trade initiatives and agreements; investments in assets acquisition, greenfield, and brownfield, new technologies, infrastructure construction, foreign aid, financing, the building of new institutions, and diplomacy. The breadth (scale) and depth (scope) of these pursuits reflect the ambition of China’s objectives and define the contour of China’s grand strategy.
