ABSTRACT

THIS BOOK STARTS WITH a simple premise—the act of design is not making objects or producing drawings. These are simply the tools we use to explore and understand the intentions of a project. Rather, design is the thinking process that is behind those outcomes. We use our design tools, whether models, maps, diagrams, renderings, animations, and so on, to develop ideas, document intentions, illustrate outcomes, and communicate these things that do not yet exist to other people. The design aspect is about making decisions, managing information, setting priorities, and integrating these into larger relationships.
