ABSTRACT

The introduction provides coordinates to operating the pre-state photographic archive instituted by the Jewish National Fund in Jerusalem during the 1920s. Outlining the key questions discussed in the book, this introductory chapter explores issues around the meeting points of visual choices, ideological needs and political realities, which have impacted and determined the operations of the archive, and were instrumental to its importance for the production of the image of the Zionist body, the image of the territory for the new national home for this body and the image of their relationships, their connection.
