ABSTRACT

This chapter uses the contributions from the approaches used by the earlier mentioned selected Christian church traditions in Zimbabwe to develop an appropriate theological response to minister “to and with” persons with disabilities in poverty-stricken contexts. This theological response is a critical engagement meant to bridge the gap between the creation of worship space leading to their spiritual experiences; and appreciating their issues (challenges) by intentionally meeting their needs. As a contribution to new knowledge to disability studies, this chapter uses a “stewardship model of disability” as an appropriate ministerial response to minister “to and with” persons with disabilities in poverty-stricken contexts. The “stewardship model of disability” uses the already existing “spiritual and material” resources endowed in the church to transform the lives of persons with disabilities. The church is a living organism with the ability to appropriate its resources to its marginalised stakeholders.
