ABSTRACT
This chapter highlights the power of others – the people are far from alone in parenting as their child is far from alone in growing up. As adults, they experience other family members, friends, and bullies as do their children, and being and working with others are major buffers from loneliness, major teachers of skills and attitudes, and keys to developing social sensitivity. Children have different potentials, different realizations of their lives, and different experiences. Children within the same family experience their families very differently. Since 2000, there have been more than 300 deaths from school shootings in the US. Loneliness is no fun particularly as they become teenagers, when having a reputation that is appreciated and enhanced by friends becomes all important.
