In a letter to Fliess 1 dated September 21, 1897, Freud announces that he is abandoning the psychoanalysis of trauma that he calls his Neurotica:
And now I want to confide in you […] the great secret that has been slowly dawning on me in the last few months. I no longer believe in my neurotica.
