ABSTRACT

The Naval Academy, and the military in general, nowadays strongly disapprove of porn and do all in their power to prevent service members watching it. Testosterone is channeled in fairly predictable ways, with even the unpredictable being to some degree predictable. Male movie stars are buffed up and roided out for sword and sandal epics where they show off their pecs largely for the appreciation of male audience members. In most cases, the male interest in the male is physical but does not lead to overt sex acts: men are comparing their pecs or biceps, not being sexually aroused. It is quite true that porn presents people who are not perceived as individuals or given respect and treated as ends in themselves, which seems to be the boil-down of criticisms of porn. The necessity to assume nothing and negotiate everything is a given in the case of gay male sex.
