ABSTRACT

In a free-flowing discussion Clare Lizzimore (original director) and actors Sam Troughton and Adam James (original actors) take the author through the production history of the original cast of Mike Bartlett’s Olivier Award-winning play Bull, including Lizzimore’s discovery of the unfinished manuscript, intense text-focused rehearsals, and performances in Sheffield, New York, and London. Lizzimore, Troughton, and James also discuss the musicality of Bartlett’s writing, the incorporation of the bull metaphor into rehearsals and the set design, and the effect of the play’s performance on audience members.
