ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on four main topics. The first section deals with the different concepts of demand measurement: potential market, available market, served market and penetrated market. The second pays attention to several qualitative forecasting methods. Three groups are distinguished: traditional approaches, the Delphi method and the group of judgement-aided models. The quantitative methods are discussed in the third section. The focus here is on three topics. First, special attention is given to the regression analysis as a research method. The second topic is the generic demand model which is the basis for many applications. Special applications of the regression analysis are the gravity and trip-generation models. The final section is dedicated to several interesting applications to initiate scholars in regression analysis and to prove its usefulness.
