ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with a discussion about disciplinarity, highlighting some of the variances in teaching and learning practices across disciplines. It then focuses more specifically on PBL, providing some key findings from Fraser’s multi-site research study which explored the influences on PBL facilitation across five different disciplines, namely, chemical engineering, law, medicine, natural sciences and occupational therapy. This chapter focuses on a key theme entitled signature pedagogies, which related to the discipline-based characteristics of PBL that were revealed in the data.
