ABSTRACT

This chapter considers problem-based learning from the perspective of the students and offers some practical strategies to support them achieving the best learning from the opportunities offered. Achieving a balance between providing learning support and ensuring that learning is realistically challenging can be troublesome. The chapter begins with a discussion relating to the equilibrium between student learning and student experience of learning. The remainder of the chapter provides some practical student support strategies focusing on the following key areas: the challenge of achieving unity in diversity, being clear about intentions and metacognitive strategies to support student learning.
