ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the whole gifted child using the report from NAGC’s The Whole Gifted Child Task Force (2018). Stakeholders must approach students with gifts and talents holistically, not just cognitively. This includes social, emotional, psychological, and physical aspects as well so that the emphasis is on the child, not the child’s gift. When such a focus occurs, students are much more likely to take risks, approach challenges head-on, and feel more confident. The children and youth have continuous progress in all areas of their lives. Various contributors share tips and strategies to approach gifted education through the lens of the whole child. Finally, they share their personal stories of joy having used that lens.
