ABSTRACT

ULLYETT, Royden (b. 1914). Sports cartoonist. Roy Ullyett was born in Leytonstone, Essex, on 16 March 1914 and had his first cartoon published in the Southend Times. His first job was working for a colour printing firm but at the age of 19 he joined the Star as sports cartoonist. After serving as a pilot in the RAF in World War II, he returned to the paper whilst also drawing as ‘Berryman’ for the Sunday Pictorial. Influenced by Tom Webster, he has been sports cartoonist at the Daily Express since 1953 and draws with a brush.
