ABSTRACT

Few of the lyrics written by this great soldier have come down to us. The one most well known and quoted, which reveals his pent-up fury and frustration at not being allowed to resume his campaigns in the field against the Chin Tartars, we have already printed in our first collection. We reproduce, on p. 246, an engraving of Yüeh Fei’s own calligraphy of this tz’u, the translation being printed for convenience in ‘Notes on Poems’ opposite it.
