ABSTRACT

Teachers and parents in particular will find it useful to bear in mind that whenever images of futures are presented as non-negotiable or finished, they are likely to conceal an attempt to persuade by stealth and to secure one set of interests at the expense. To demonstrate how to apply the bridging strategies, let us consider three loci in educational systems: the system level; the school or institution level; and the level of the individual learner or teacher. The urgency of having every teacher prepared to operate in a paradigm which supersedes industrialism, disconnectedness and mere positivism. The two-hundred year present moment begins one hundred years ago today, on the day of the birth of those among us who are centenarians, celebrating their hundredth birthday today. The other boundary of this present moment is the hundredth birthday of the babies being born today.
