ABSTRACT

In the corporate world, many individuals with narcissistic personalities are chosen as leaders of organizations or of teams, which often harms their coworkers and subordinates. Therefore, the problem is that very few lower-level employees have a positive perception of their narcissistic leaders and are satisfied with their job. Hence, there is need to measure through qualitative research based on already existing articles in a given subject the correlation between the perception of narcissistic leader and the leader evaluation method. The articles chosen for this research are peer-reviewed scholarly articles extracted from the online library of California Southern University to ensure the study’s quality and reliability. The research criteria state that the articles have to contain information on the method of leader evaluation, the perception of a narcissistic leader in the organization, and at least one form of leader-employee outcome, which assures the validity of the study. The study findings demonstrate that narcissists always speak highly of themselves when evaluating themselves, often omitting mention of any unfavorable features. On the contrary, the other-evaluation shows that others perceive narcissistic leaders negatively due to abusive supervision. The study gives an excellent insight into psychology by linking the narcissistic personality with the leadership role and with the method of evaluating a leader, along with discussing the positive or negative outcomes of their leadership.
