ABSTRACT

The research concerns the topic of the perception of a narcissistic leader in the organization. For that matter, the author has created three research questions – the first research questions concerns various methods of leader evaluation. The author closely studies evaluation methods used in the previous research and concludes that researchers have used ready-made forms to test the level of narcissism in leaders and the perception of such leaders. Nevertheless, those methods do not measure the perception of narcissistic leaders among the employees, so the author proposes self-evaluation and other-evaluation as the appropriate methods to examine the proposed research question. The second research question of the study on the perception of a narcissistic leader in an organization concerned the actual opinion such a leader has among his subordinates and coworkers. The research results show that depending on the methods of leader evaluation, a leader is either perceived negatively or positively. The author has pointed out that positive perception of a narcissistic leader is achieved only through self-evaluation or during the other-evaluation, but only when the evaluations are closely related to the narcissistic leader (family member, close friend). Otherwise, research shows that subordinates view their narcissistic leaders negatively. The research results presented that a narcissistic individual’s negative characteristics impact their relationship with their coworkers and subordinates and drastically influence employee outcomes. Researchers have noted a variety of adverse outcomes that narcissistic leaders have on their employees. They were divided into emotional and psychological and attitude toward the job.
