ABSTRACT
The public sector plays a critical role in disaster recovery within local communities. From managing and strengthening infrastructure to supporting mental health response teams, housing and employment services, and human service organizations, public sector agencies and staff support community recovery at a high level. Public sector entities also play a vital role in supporting vulnerable people and places who rely on government, military, education, and health care for quality of life and vital services. Starting with the COVID-19 pandemic, this chapter lays out the important work that must be undertaken by the public sector.
