ABSTRACT
: This chapter explains what kinds of volunteers to expect and how to manage them effectively when disaster occurs. Best practices for volunteering both locally and internationally will be addressed including the need for cultural competency and respect for local contexts. A range of voluntary organizations active in disaster will be included. In addition, volunteer management, volunteer organizations, training volunteers, volunteer safety, interorganizational coordination and the use of technology will be covered.
