ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how a Resilience Coordinating Coalition (RCC) can inspire residents to regularly engage in specific practices that help heighten their capacity for mental wellness and transformational resilience. It begins by discussing the benefits of practicing forgiveness for people who blatantly worsen the climate emergency or harm us and also forgiving ourselves for our own transgressions. The chapter then describes the importance of finding simple joys during ongoing climate adversities to lighten the psychological and emotional load. Being grateful to those around you and for the wonder of being alive is the next practice discussed. The chapter then focuses on the need to keep learning as temperatures rise in order to stay healthy and develop innovative solutions. It closes by discussing the need to maintain physical health, with a special emphasis on staying active and eating healthy diets. Ideas are offered after each section about how RCCs can motivate residents to engage in the wellness and resilience practice.
