ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how a Resilience Coordinating Coalition (RCC) can establish ongoing opportunities for residents to heal the distresses and traumas they experience during the long climate emergency. It begins by describing how residents can heal themselves by engaging in the four other foundational areas involved with enhancing mental wellness and transformational resilience. Because many people will still be traumatized as the global crisis accelerates, the chapter then discusses different types of healing opportunities RCCs can organize. These include age and culturally accountable healing circles, therapeutic art, theatre, written dialogues, journaling and drawing, nature-based healing, and mindfulness and other body-based, breath-based, and cognitively-based approaches. The role of individualized clinical treatment is then discussed. The chapter closes by offering examples of how RCCs can organize these healing opportunities.
