ABSTRACT
This chapter describes how a Resilience Coordinating Coalition (RCC) can be formed and operate in a neighborhood or community. It begins by discussing the benefits of organizing an RCC, the initial steps that are typically involved with doing so, and whether to work through an existing organization or coalition or form an altogether new one. It then addresses how an RCC can develop its mission and vision of success, and clarify its core values and operating principals. The importance of selecting an appropriate organizational structure is then discussed. The chapter moves on to describe the need to quickly provide RCC members with basic education and training. It also addresses how to identify effective leaders and staff. The chapter closes with a discussion of funding options. A checklist is provided at the end of the chapter (and in all of the other chapters to follow) that RCCs can use to determine the degree to which they have covered all of the core issues involved with getting organized.
