ABSTRACT

The forced circulation of bodies is one of the most visible consequences of wars and conflicts. More likely to affect vulnerable populations such as women and children, forced migration entails dramatic consequences at the individual and collective levels, and induces changes in gender relations, in particular, in refugee camps where displaced populations are governed and monitored by international agencies. This chapter examines feminist peace approaches to forced migration and explores how pre-existing gender roles and values affect whether forced displacement happens or not. This chapter also discusses the gendered dimensions of forced displacement, in particular, the gendered impact of conflict-induced migration.
