ABSTRACT
General concepts of latent variables are reviewed with a focus on factor mean and variance identification, and binary and ordinal variables. The goal of this chapter is to bridge the gap between introductory knowledge of structural equation modeling and knowledge that is needed to fully comprehend essential concepts of longitudinal structural equation models.
