ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes and compares results from two national surveys of state weights and measures programs conducted in 2002 and 2019. Trends regarding weights and measures program budgets, staffing, weighing and measuring device workloads, device inspection frequencies and failure rates, device registration and inspection fees, as well as package net contents inspections and failure rates are examined and explained. The most recent national survey was conducted the year prior to the COVID-19 pandemic so the impacts of the pandemic recession are avoided. The national survey results and changes are summarized in two appendices inserted the conclusion of the book for ease of reference.
