ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the discoverer stage, which is foundational for the rest of the audio journey. A key point is made about the discoverer process: when you learn more about yourself, you gain insight into who you are, thereby gaining self-confidence. This is accompanied by another important realization: as you learn more about yourself, you also learn more about the world around you. That's because you are in the world, and as you discover your place in it, you understand more about how it works. This chapter examines the advantages of being involved with college and community radio stations, and their important cultural history. There are three R.E.A.L. exercises that focus on the discoverer stage of audio production. This chapter starts and ends with personal case studies of one student with autism, who found communication difficult, but came alive in front of a radio microphone, and then started his own radio station for students with similar challenges, and one student who courageously told the truth for herself and other victims of domestic violence and won national recognition for her radio story.
