ABSTRACT
The chapter starts by revealing the connections between Stalinist national politics and kraevedenie, addressing the importance of the kraevedenie institutions in the national republics in the politics of ‘enlightening backward’ nations. It shows that how kraevedenie was used as a colonial tool to impose certain ideas and views on the peripheral regions of Siberia and Far East, addressing some of the guidelines that have been produced on the representation of the indigenous peoples.
