ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a conceptual stakeholder relationship framework to facilitate the identification, understanding, and management of the stakeholder relationships around M&A, the how and why of stakeholders affecting and being affected by M&A. Knowing what types of stakeholders and subgroups exist, what their stakes are, the “who or what really counts,” and what type of stakeholder they are to help manage stakeholder relationships sets the stage for constructing stakeholder relationships around balance. The framework is relevant to academic analysis and practitioner management of M&A. It is presented generically in this chapter and applied to four cases in Chapters 8–11.
