ABSTRACT

This chapter gives a brief presentation of the main recommendations that have achieved scientific consensus. It briefly presents investigative interview protocols that have been widely disseminated, namely the cognitive interview, the step-wise interview, the national institute of child health and human development protocol, and the corner-house forensic interview protocol. The chapter discusses strategies such as mental or physical reinstatement of the context, the use of drawing, dolls or body diagrams, and dog-assisted interviewing. Investigative protocols have been developed in order, on the one hand, to eliminate the use of inadequate techniques and, on the other hand, to promote the adoption of the best practices. Children and adults with the intellectual disabilities could also benefit from such a procedure. However, care must be taken when using these kinds of the techniques to avoid using overly specific questions that could be suggestive.
