ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the tension between logical analysis and emotional sensitivity. During times of transition and uncertainty, fear and insecurity can lead which can in turn amplify the ascribed value of logic OR emotion. The result is greater rigidity, an over-idealizing of staff that align with that preference, and a devaluing of those who are on the other end of the continuum. There becomes an over-attribution of someone’s value based simply on their preferential habit of logic or emotion. This chapter looks at how organizations can derive truth and credibility from the integration of logic and emotion, leading to inclusive 3D decision making. Using the chapter vignette as a case example, the 5-step process outlined in Chapter 1 focuses on understanding the continuum of logical analysis and emotional sensitivity and engaging with others and in decision-making with the mindset of deliberate compassion.
