Ocampo’s El Viajero y Una de sus Sombras [A Traveller and One of His Shadows, 1951] is translated here in its entirety. In it, Ocampo firmly refutes Keyserling’s portrayal of Argentina in South American Meditations as the Continent of the Third Day of Creation, in other words, as being an undeveloped backwater. She also rebuts his portrayal of her in his memoirs. In this section, unless specified otherwise, all notes are Ocampo’s. 1
