Basic Motivation Including Hunger and Sexuality

Psychological science and the neurosciences now focus more on the mechanisms that create the states traditionally referred to as needs and drives. That will also be the focus of this chapter. In this chapter we focus on two evolutionarily important motivations—hunger and sexuality. This will include the sensory and physiological processes associated with both hunger and sexuality.
