ABSTRACT

Risks associated with the adoption of AI solutions in education are already visible and applied in real life; there are problems related to surveillance and data collection, the invasion of privacy and the misuse of data, bias and discrimination, and many others. New and unprecedented forms of control and manipulation are made possible by the rapid advancement of AI, and education needs to reconsider some fundamental questions guiding teachers and the overall aims of higher education. Using AI in education requires us to define and reinforce what it means to be human, and to help students become independent thinkers and responsible citizens, active members of society who are interested to contribute to the common good. Restorying higher education can fuel imaginations, expanding the aim of education beyond vocational training and instrumental, financial arrangements. A teaching pledge presented in this last chapter intends to guide the first steps in this direction.
