ABSTRACT

This chapter starts from the stated ambition of AI to reorganise the life of the world and is analysing the main factors that determine AI as a general label for different computing systems. AI is vaguely defined, and this leaves it open to the hype and unsubstantiated promises which stand as a source of confusion about its practical applications and uses. The chapter operates conceptual clarifications from the perspective of AI as a product created and determined by human work and initiative, by narrative constructs and our imaginations. The narratives of AI are surprisingly closer to religious constructs and cult-like stories that are open here to critique for proper use in a complex and highly consequential field like education.
