ABSTRACT

The five diamonds of the Shingo Model are principles, systems, tools, results, and culture. System design is connected to each of the diamonds. The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are the basic measurements or metrics of an organization. They are measures of how well an organization is achieving its purpose. KPIs measure ideal results whether or not the ideal is achieved. Organizational results depend upon behavior, so an organization striving for excellence must carefully consider behavior. The ideal behavior is the end goal and may never be perfectly achieved. Ideal results need to be understandable and measurable throughout an organization. Ultimately, team members need to feel that they can influence and predict performance results through improving the necessary behaviors that lead to the outcomes being measured.
