ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case studies that include samples of the actual documents the organizations used as they designed their systems. The organization's list of improvement systems has been displayed on its strategy wall for more than ten years. O.C. Tanner frequently conducts tours of its Prize-recipient facilities and has hosted many Shingo workshops. Prior to the SYSTEMS DESIGN workshop, system owners at O.C. Tanner were left to their own judgment to determine how to complete these two documents and define their systems. The process of completing the Shingo system maps showed that they had work to do in creating standard work for many of the improvement sub-systems and that a system review, apart from the system metrics, was not happening on a consistent basis. The management team of Lifetime Products learned about the Shingo Model in depth in an exclusive training with Jacob Raymer in 2012.
