ABSTRACT

Change is the new normal and only constant. When change levels increase, so does the level of risk to leaders, organizations and their stakeholders. Turbulence is defined as, ‘violent disorder or commotion.’ If not planned for properly, turbulence can quickly put the organization and its leaders in a tailspin. If turbulence results in an operational tailspin, there are only two options: pull out of it or crash and burn. Merriam-Webster defines promotion as, ‘the act or fact of being raised in position or rank’ or ‘the act of furthering the growth or development of something.’ In essence, career promotions are synonymous with vertical movement. The risk tool focused on several attributes that were ranked on respective levels of risk. These attributes include compensation, fit with current skills/education, promotion potential, quality of life, time requirements and role security. Knowledge transfer is exactly what it sounds. Simply put, this concept occurs when skills and knowledge are transferred across the enterprise and beyond.
