ABSTRACT

For leaders to succeed in high-risk environments, they must be able to identify disruptors early. Where risk is prevalent and a threat to the organization, prevention, mitigation and marginalization of risk affects is a good starting point. The key is for leaders to be proactive instead of waiting for risk to knock on the organization's front door. The takeaway is risk is a reality not just a mirage. Risk applies to all industries and businesses. Not everything is high risk. Some organizational attributes are lower risk. Thus, leaders must plan and respond according to the risk level. Moreover, it is possible to predict the future by risk assessing the current environment. The adage ‘past behavior is a good predictor of future behavior’ is relevant here. Risk is an equal opportunity offender. It affects organizations, leaders and customers all the same. The key is for leaders to be knowledgeable.
