ABSTRACT

School-based curriculum change and development (CCD) is the core activity of a school to enhance teaching practice and learning outcome. This chapter highlights why and how the design and management of CCD should be based on the theories of school-based management and its development mechanism in line with paradigm shift in education. To different schools, the strategies and skills of implementing CCD may be different. A reference to the concepts and strategies of managing school-based change proposed in Chapter 10 should be helpful. Since school-based CCD is not only a technical change in curriculum structure and method within a school, it is also a paradigm shift and cultural change in direction, goals and content of education. The findings of an empirical study in this chapter demonstrate the significance of paradigm shift in CCD.
